Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. Groups that had been fighting individually against oil spills, polluting factories and power plants, raw sewage, toxic dumps, pesticides, freeways, the loss of wilderness and the extinction of wildlife united on Earth Day around these shared common values. You can check out all the great things that have changed since that day in 1970 at www.earthday.org!
This week at ASA, we have had the chance to build an understanding of all the big and small ways we can help our planet Earth. After all, it’s the only one we’ve got! Preschool 5 learned about ways to reduce, reuse and recycle, how to conserve energy and water, the importance of flowers, trees, and vegetation, and ways to help God’s creatures, too. There’s a lot we can do…even at age 5!
We took a virtual field trip to a recycling plant, created a recycled rainbow and beautiful newspaper flowers. We made a planet earth and gave it some LOVE, and shared some wonderful books too. Next up, we will do a little planting of our own - from going green to GROWing green!
Our Recycled Rainbow includes ribbons, wrappers, cardboard, containers, bottle caps, and more!
It is an ongoing project in Mrs. Blalock’s class through the end of the month.
