Volunteer Spotlight December 2019

This year, the Home and School Association will be honoring volunteers who help make a difference at All Saints Academy. No matter the size of their efforts, these volunteers are a wonderful example of our core value of service.

While Santa may have his elves in the North Pole, All Saints Academy depends on our own Christmas helpers to execute Santa’s Secret Shop each year.  For the past few years it has been Tara Truszkowski and Samantha Hekman leading the efforts during the most wonderful time of the year, although their work is hardly confined to the months of November and December.

Long before Christmas items begin showing up on the shelves of department stores, Tara and Samantha are out finding deals, collecting items, and organizing storage closets at school in preparation for turning both campuses into a secret shopping experience for our students.  Beyond all the “stuff”, the students are truly learning what it means to give rather than receive. The excitement they show when finding the “perfect” gift is priceless.  And many many thanks to all of those parents and volunteers who helped assist students with their shopping and wrapping efforts!

Thank you for your example of service to our students and parents!

At All Saints Academy, our mission is to serve and partner with our families, parishes, and communities as we focus on the spiritual, intellectual, moral, social, and physical development of our children. We also believe We Are One as we work together to form Saints to serve All! It takes a team to do what we do each day,  and we are so thankful for ALL of our volunteers and families for partnering with us at ASA! We look forward to highlighting more of our amazing volunteers throughout the 2019-2020 school year!

Welcome Ms. Konarzewski!

Dear ASA community,

My name is Liz (Ms. K/ Ms. Konarzewski) and I will be student teaching in Melanie Starback’s third grade classroom until April 17th. I am an elementary education student at Aquinas College and I minored in early childhood education. My hometown is over on the east side of the state in Davisburg, MI, but I have greatly enjoyed these past five years living in Grand Rapids. Last semester I spent my time as a preschool teacher at Children’s Healing Center in GR. I am filled with excitement and gratitude for this opportunity to learn at ASA! Thank you for your part in this friendly community and I look forward to getting to know you.

God bless,
Liz

Elementary Table Talk

Be the I in KIND!

The elementary building launched January with a bucket filling and kindness themed Table Talk Tuesday. A great reminder for all to be the person who spreads kindness with actions and words.

Students mixed it up in the lunch room while sitting with students from different grade levels. They practiced their positive social skills with greetings, active listening skills, taking turns and having fun making new friends. All the students participated in a kindness roll and respond activity while eating their lunch. They had the chance to share how they show kindness at home, school, in their community and being kind to themselves.

Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without being happier.”
