Preschool Pumpkin Fun!

The preschool 4’s classroom is learning that there is more to Halloween than costumes and candy.  Through stories and discussions we are learning about what things are real and imaginary.  We discussed how a pumpkin goes from a seed all the way to becoming a jack-o-lantern.  The children are using their artistic imaginations and decorating the hallway and classroom for our Halloween celebration.  We are using our senses in the texture table with rice and scooping out the pumpkin after we carved a happy face.  The children also enjoy using Halloween items to improve their math skills.

What is inside a pumpkin?

First Grade Number Corner

Each day first graders engage in math learning and they are loving it!  Number Corner has taken the morning math calendar to a whole new level.  During Number Corner time, students engage in calendar grid and days of school activities, students add to our calendar collection, practice computational fluency, and engage in number line activities. The start of each new month is an exciting time as many of the activities vary by month.  There is much anticipation as we get out and set up the new materials.  Room 104 is full of great mathematicians who are eagerly awaiting the exciting Number Corner activities yet to come this school year!

First Kindergarten Field Trip of the Year!

Every year in kindergarten, we celebrate Johnny Appleseed’s birthday by spending the day doing apple theme activities.  This year kindergarteners got to celebrate Johnny Appleseed’s birthday at the apple orchard.  The kindergarteners rode a bus, the first time for many, to Dunneback Farm.  The students got to see pigs, chickens, and a pony.  They also got a chance to pick apples, walk through Spookley’s corn maze reading a story of how to be a good friend, taste apple cider and donuts, and play on the playground!
